About the course
Conditioning and Playability
Heritage Oaks is famous for award winning course conditions, with tee to green bentgrass, and receptive greens.
Interesting Design and Layout
The Bill Love design mixing woodland and links style holes, makes for an interesting round. Mr. Love has said that Heritage Oaks is one of his favorite designs and one of his toughest to complete.
Walkable
Unlike many area courses which were designed for power cart travel, Heritage Oaks has a compact enough layout that makes for ease of walking.
Versatile
It can be a forgiving course for beginners and can play challenging for skilled golfers.
Commitment to Stewardship
Our course has abundant wildlife and we are committed to protecting the environment. As part of its commitment to the environment, Heritage Oaks has begun installing bee pollinator wildflower plots to help encourage the bee populations in our area. We received a grant from the Fairways Foundation to help start this process and this process will continue as we take more areas that are being regularly maintained and turning them into wildlife refuges.
Course History
Heritage Oaks Golf Course had its soft opening in Fall of 2001 and began fully operating in March of 2002.
In addition to providing rounds of golf, Heritage Oaks hosts tournaments and fundraising events.
We are also the home of several local high school gold teams, and James Madison University’s and Eastern Mennonite University’s teams.
We also have four golf leagues of our own. Additionally, we offer private and group golf instruction, and have a driving range. Not only is Heritage Oaks a leading municipal golf course in the Shenandoah Valley, our golf course facilities have also provided an opportunity for non-golf related events and activities for the public to enjoy.
